Once on the campus, it was fun to imagine the life of the boys who study here. Many of England's prime ministers have attended Eton, as well as other leaders and royalty.
This stop was the perfect introduction to our time in the United Kingdom.
Sophia "Mom, I have something to tell you. I have decided that I am going to become Catholic. I really want to light the candles. If Bishop Ainge or Bishop White will put candles in our church, then I will be Mormon. But if not, I am going to be Catholic."
Annelise (from the back seat, while helping me make a very tight turn) "Oh mom, you don't have to worry about the car over on this side. It already has some scratches on it."
Ezra (after watching me pay a $50 toll in Spain) "My favorite part of driving on the roads is paying the money to the people. When I grow up, I am going to be the man who takes all of the money. Then I will have lots of money!"
Sophia (In Siena's Duomo) "Can I please, please, please have a coin to light the candles?"
Me "These candles are only for Catholics to light."
Sophia "Well, where are the Mormon candles?"
Me "Okay. What did we learn about the Vatican? Who can tell me which Roman Emperor began the process of building it?"
Sophia "Hmmmmm . . . Andrew Jackson?"
Sophia "Look! We are above the clouds!"
Ezra "Wow! We are in outerspace!"
Sophia "No, Ezra, technically we are in heaven!"
Annelise "Oh Mom look! It's security. I love going through security!"

Looks like a fun first day in England. I've never been to either Windsor Castle or Eton, so it's fun to see pictures. I'm sure your kids loved the castle!
What a fun way to experience British culture... It must have been interesting for your family to see a castle that is still being used by royalty.
What great pictures! I love the photo of the Eton students in tails, the "redcoats," and the tea cups and tea pots in the shop window. I also love the photo of Sarah mailing her letter at Windsor Castle. Her background and enthusiasm certainly added to your trip. I bet Grandma and Grandpa Calder took me to Windsor Castle, but I need a refresher course! You have suggested so many picturesque and unique places to visit.
