Kinderdijk
In planning our time through the Netherlands, we were told by more than one friend not to miss Kinderdijk. Of the 1,000 original windmills built in the 1700's, the highest concentration of remaining ones can be found in this small town. 19 well preserved mills line a canal, providing the most idyllic Holland experience.
We arrived during a rain storm, but that didn't deter us. We rented bikes and began our exploration.
Some of the windmills were open for tours. . .
while others were private residences. Can you imagine living in a real live windmill?
We met a Dutch man who was working on one of the mills. I loved that he was wearing wooden shoes! We could not resist a photo with him.
Kinderdijk was the perfect introduction of The Netherlands.

What gorgeous photographs, Camille! I had no idea that some Dutch people really do still wear wooden shoes to work in. Mom
