Old World Dutch

Throughout The Netherlands are located open air folk museums. We sought out the biggest and the best, of course! Arnhem was on the way into Germany, so after spending the morning at church, we stopped for one last dose of Dutch education. Arnhem is in a park like setting with a trolley that links reconstructed Dutch structures together. We spent the afternoon in and out of windmills, old farm houses, gardens and craft houses. We saw the interior of churches, watched paper being made and then tried our hand at printing, spent time in the laundry mill, where clothes were cleaned by the power of a windmill, in the heat of blacksmith shops and in the fresh air trying out a few children's toys.

We left content at our sufficient exploration of the old Dutch lifestyle.

What a treat to visit that folk museum! Dad and I visited a very memorable folk museum in western Holland, as well--I think it was the same one. I love the photo of Jono on the red bicycle! Mom
