Sorrow
I hesitated in bringing the kids to Dachau, but in the end I am glad that I did. For the most part, the kids understood just the right amount of information based on each child's emotional level. The little ones understood nothing and Emilie and Jonathan understood everything, with the girls somewhere in between.
Dachau was the first concentration camp in Germany and served as the model in design for the other camps. About 35,000 prisoners died at Dachau and 300,000 victims were imprisoned there. Systematic mass killings did not take place at Dachau, with most prisoners perishing from malnutrition, disease and suicide. It was the second camp to be liberated, so many of the original stories and photos that were streamed to the public came from here.

That's an interesting comment, about your children understanding just the right amount about Dachau, based on their emotional level. I love the top photo, of the Star of David. Mom
